Music in Burlesque
Sunday 14:00-15:30 (May 3rd)
Service Description
Level: Open Place: Oslo Nye Teaterkjeller'n (Akersgata 38) Music is an essential part of a burlesque act - and an important tool to showcase our taste, create an atmosphere, and invite the audience to share an unforgettable moment with us. But with so much music in the world at our fingertips, why do we keep hearing the same songs over and over again? With her academic research background and knack for musicality, Sweets is here to share her tips for finding tunes best suited for performance that make you stand out from the crowd. What are the burlesque "classics" and how do you put a spin on them? How do you choose songs that help create an arc in your act? How can we play with dissonance and cohesion? And what the heck is musicality? Come find out! Bring a laptop or notebook! About the instructor: Sweets is Oslo and Toronto's favourite meow meow girl, a purveyor of camp and feline ferocity! Princess of the 2024 Sacré Burlesque Festival, winner of Burlesque Idol July 2025, and a finalist at the 2025 Legend in the Making at Hebden Bridge, this ginger bobblehead has been taking over the world one stop-drop-and-roll at a time.
